SCHOOL BOARD BYLAWS

Composition/Election/Term of Office

  1. Composition

    The School Board of the City of Virginia Beach shall consist of eleven (11) Members elected as set forth in Legal References to this Bylaw or as enacted by the Virginia General Assembly, or as otherwise ordered by a court of competent jurisdiction.

  2. Election

    The Members of the School Board shall be elected by the qualified voters of the city as set forth in the legal reference below.

    Every two years, there shall be a general election in November for the election of School Board Members to replace those whose terms expire at the end of December of a given election year.

  3. Term of Office

    The Members of the School Board elected as specified below in the Legal Reference to this Bylaw or as enacted by the Virginia General Assembly, or as ordered by a court of competent jurisdiction, shall be elected for a term of four (4) years. The term for each elected Member shall commence on the first day of January next following the date of election.
