2026-27 federal grant information presented to Virginia Beach School Board

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 12 meeting. For the 2026-27 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $18.9 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released Standard of Learning (SOL) pass rate data on Aug. 27. The overall SOL pass rates for Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) exceeded the state pass rates in all subject areas.

Evaluation of Administrative Personnel

Administrative personnel will be evaluated in keeping with this regulation.

  1. New Hire Training

    The evaluation process and procedure will be reviewed with new employees. It is the responsibility of the department to review the instrument with employees.

  2. Schedule of Evaluations for Administrators- Non-Instructional
    1. Evaluations for administrative employees are on a three-year cycle. However, department heads may choose to evaluate their administrators more frequently.
    2. Interim evaluations will be at the option of the appropriate supervisor unless performance is unsatisfactory. In cases of unsatisfactory performance, additional evaluations are expected to be entered into the online evaluation system.
    3. Evaluations must be completed by deadlines established by Human Resources.
    4. A copy of the evaluation will be maintained in the employee's personnel file.
  3. Schedule of Evaluations for Administrators- Instructional
    1. Principals, Assistant Principals, and Instructional Supervisors will be evaluated in accordance with Code of Virginia requirements.
    2. The Superintendent or designee shall implement such performance evaluation process in making employment recommendations to the School Board.
