2026-27 federal grant information presented to Virginia Beach School Board

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 12 meeting. For the 2026-27 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $18.9 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released Standard of Learning (SOL) pass rate data on Aug. 27. The overall SOL pass rates for Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) exceeded the state pass rates in all subject areas.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools Music Education Program Receives National Recognition for 16th Year

For the 16th time, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation. Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students.

BUSINESS AND NONINSTRUCTIONAL OPERATIONS

Local Funds: Virginia Beach Education Foundation, Inc.

  1. Generally

    In accordance with applicable law, it is the desire of the School Board to accommodate a nonprofit, nonstock corporation under the name of Virginia Beach City Public Schools Education Foundation, Inc. (the "Corporation").

  2. Objectives and Purposes

    The objectives and purposes of the Corporation are enumerated as follows:

    1. To raise private sector support to fund innovative learning programs and initiatives that support the whole child for the students of Virginia Beach City Public Schools and to reward educational excellence.
    2. To manage award programs and scholarships, approved by the Education Foundation Board, that offer School Division teachers, staff and scholarship awardees the opportunity to acquire funding that would not otherwise be available through the School Board’s operating budget.
    3. To develop meaningful opportunities for community members/businesses to be involved with the School Division through initiatives aligned with Education Foundation goals.
    4. To assist in making the instruction or training in the vocational education program a more practical and meaningful experience through unique hands-on learning opportunities for students.
