Virginia Beach City Public Schools Music Education Program Receives National Recognition for 16th Year

For the 16th time, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation. Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students.

2025 Citywide Volunteers of the Year

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) values and promotes active engagement of the community in all our schools. The Office of Family and Community Engagement coordinates many volunteer opportunities for community members to interact and contribute to the academic achievement of our students and the overall continuous improvement of VBCPS.

2025-26 federal grant information presented to Virginia Beach School Board

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 13 meeting. For the 2025-26 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $21.6 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

BUSINESS AND NONINSTRUCTIONAL OPERATIONS

Gifts, Grants and Bequests of Property

The School Board may accept real and personal property by gift, grant or bequest, and hold and use such property for carrying out the responsibilities of the School Board. The School Board reserves the right not to accept a gift, grant or bequest of property.

  1. Conditions for accepting gifts, bequests, and donations of property

    All gifts, grants or bequests of property shall become the property of the School Board and shall be administered in line with the intent of the donor to the extent determined appropriate by the School Board. Gifts, bequests, and donations shall:

    1. be free of any restriction which is inconsistent with School Board policy or regulation, or other applicable law or regulation.
    2. be deemed fitting and appropriate for educational purposes and consistent with the School Board’s missions, goals and strategic plan.
    3. contain no overt advertising of commercial interests, unless otherwise addressed in policy or regulation.
    4. include installation costs, if any, unless waived by the Superintendent or designee.
    5. not require excessive alteration or maintenance costs.
    6. not require return of the property or donor control or direction of the use of the property unless agreed to in writing by the School Board or as required by a federal or state grant.
    7. not require naming or sponsorship rights that are inconsistent with School Board policy or regulation or that the School Board determines are not appropriate for the School Division.
  2. Reservation of rights

    The School Board reserves the right to not accept a gift, donation, bequests or another form of transfer of property. The School Board further reserves the right to dispose of, alter, modify, or augment any gift, donation, bequest or other form or property that it accepts.
