Virginia Beach City Public Schools Music Education Program Receives National Recognition for 16th Year

For the 16th time, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation. Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students.

2025 Citywide Volunteers of the Year

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) values and promotes active engagement of the community in all our schools. The Office of Family and Community Engagement coordinates many volunteer opportunities for community members to interact and contribute to the academic achievement of our students and the overall continuous improvement of VBCPS.

2025-26 federal grant information presented to Virginia Beach School Board

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 13 meeting. For the 2025-26 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $21.6 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

  1. Vendors and Contractors

    No favoritism shall be extended to any vendor. Each purchase shall be made on the basis of quality, price and delivery and other considerations as set forth in the applicable contract, law, policy or regulation.

    The School Board believes in patronizing local businesses; therefore, in the purchasing process, when proposals prices are equal, the contract or purchase order should be awarded under local preference laws to the firm whose location is within the boundaries of this School Division.

  2. Sales Representatives

    The School Board recognizes the value of the staff being informed of the latest commercial materials available to assist in their teaching and welcomes competent representatives of such publishers and manufacturers. However, the School Board does not want classroom teachers distracted, nor undue administrative time taken from previously assigned duties.

    It shall be the responsibility of the Superintendent or designees to develop such regulations as will protect the staff from outside pressures yet take advantage of the knowledge brought into the School Division by sales representatives.

  3. Vendor Debarment

    Vendors or contractors, on the basis of documented unsatisfactory performance, may be debarred from contracting for particular types of supplies, services, and construction, permanently or for a specified period of time. The vendor will be notified in writing of the particulars of the debarment.
