2026-27 federal grant information presented to Virginia Beach School Board

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 12 meeting. For the 2026-27 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $18.9 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released Standard of Learning (SOL) pass rate data on Aug. 27. The overall SOL pass rates for Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) exceeded the state pass rates in all subject areas.

For the 16th time, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation. Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students.

Design-Build and Construction Management Project Delivery Methods

The School Board is committed to the efficient use of public funds and the use of various construction delivery methods allowed by the Virginia Public Procurement Act and other applicable law. To provide efficient and competitive procurement options, the School Board adopts Design-Build (D-M) and Construction Management (CM) as additional project delivery methods for optional use in Capital Improvement Program projects (CIP). The Superintendent or designee is authorized to implement regulations and/or guidelines for Design-Build and Construction Management project delivery methods that are consistent with applicable law and regulation regarding use of these project delivery methods and which also incorporates School Board review and approval of the use of such procedures for large projects. Competitive principles will be incorporated for the purposes ensuring that bidding or negotiating will result in cost effective contract pricing. The School Board reserves the right to review and approve requests for proposals for large construction projects.
