Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) values and promotes active engagement of the community in all our schools. The Office of Family and Community Engagement coordinates many volunteer opportunities for community members to interact and contribute to the academic achievement of our students and the overall continuous improvement of VBCPS.

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 13 meeting. For the 2025-26 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $21.6 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

BUSINESS AND NONINSTRUCTIONAL OPERATIONS

Equipment

  1. Maintenance and Repair

    School employees shall be utilized, whenever feasible and economical, for routine maintenance and repair. Within budgetary limitations the Superintendent or designee is authorized to employ outside contractors for the maintenance and repair of complicated and specialized equipment.

  2. Responsibility

    Building principals shall be responsible for the inspection of equipment under their jurisdiction and for reporting the results to the Department of School Division Services.

  3. Transfer

    Procedures will be developed to ensure that when equipment is transferred from one location to another that the permanent inventory file reflects the transfer.

  4. Replacement

    All School Division equipment shall be placed on a replacement schedule and the Superintendent or designee shall include in the recommended budget, funds to maintain the replacement schedule.

    Requests for replacement of equipment shall be submitted by principals and other supervisors by established School Division procedures. Replacement of equipment, other than approved in the adopted budget, shall be considered only under emergency circumstances or when determined necessary for the operation of the School Division.
