At its Jan. 14 meeting, the School Board of the City of Virginia Beach elected Kathleen Brown as chair and Carolyn Weems as vice chair. Brown has served on the School Board for two years and Weems for 22 years.

Admission Requirements
- Enrollment Requirements
The Superintendent shall have responsibility for developing and implementing regulations to ensure that students entering the public schools meet the requirements of federal law, state law and regulations of the Virginia Board of Education and other agencies as they apply to the admission of students to the public schools as cited in the legal references to this Policy.
- Part-Time Students
Students enrolled in private or parochial schools and home school students shall not be permitted to enroll in this School Division on a part-time basis or participate in academic or extracurricular activities, except as required by law.
- Nonresident Tuition Students
The School Board will not admit students from outside its jurisdiction except as required by law or regulation developed by the Superintendent or designee. Students who start the school year in VBCPS and then move to a neighboring district, may apply for Continued Enrollment for the rest of the current semester. If the student is a senior, the student may apply for consideration for enrollment for the entire school year. Tuition fees for nonresident students will be approved annually by the School Board (See School Board Policy 3-22 Tuition Fees).
