2026-27 federal grant information presented to Virginia Beach School Board

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 12 meeting. For the 2026-27 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $18.9 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released Standard of Learning (SOL) pass rate data on Aug. 27. The overall SOL pass rates for Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) exceeded the state pass rates in all subject areas.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools Music Education Program Receives National Recognition for 16th Year

For the 16th time, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation. Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students.

STUDENTS

Students Without Records

The following procedures will be used in cases where school records are unavailable.

  1. School personnel will obtain a statement from the adult student/parent or legal guardian of a minor student attesting to the fact that records are not available.
  2. The student's educational background will be reconstructed and the student will be placed in the appropriate grade; under certain circumstances, the student should be placed at the age-appropriate level.
  3. Secondary students will be scheduled to earn an average of 5 1/2 credits for each grade level of enrollment.
  4. Students who complete the required subjects and meet all diploma requirements from the time of entering the School Division will be eligible for graduation.
