At its Jan. 14 meeting, the School Board of the City of Virginia Beach elected Kathleen Brown as chair and Carolyn Weems as vice chair. Brown has served on the School Board for two years and Weems for 22 years.
Lalisha Fitchett, an English teacher at Brandon Middle School, is the 2026 Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) Citywide Teacher of the Year. Superintendent Dr. Donald E. Robertson Jr. made the announcement during a surprise visit to Brandon Middle on Dec. 19.

The Virginia Beach City Public Schools’ Building Utilization Committee (BUC) has developed a proposal recommending zoning changes for Point O’View Elementary School.
Green Run Collegiate (GRC) has been named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, receiving the distinction of Exemplary High Performing School.

The school board demands compliance with both the word and intent of the Code of Virginia, § 22.1-279.1, Corporal punishment prohibited, cited in the Legal Reference to School Board Policy 5-35.
Those situations which have occasioned "the use of reasonable and necessary force" as detailed within the Regulatory Authority shall be immediately reported to the superintendent by the employee(s) concerned.
