At its Jan. 14 meeting, the School Board of the City of Virginia Beach elected Kathleen Brown as chair and Carolyn Weems as vice chair. Brown has served on the School Board for two years and Weems for 22 years.
Lalisha Fitchett, an English teacher at Brandon Middle School, is the 2026 Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) Citywide Teacher of the Year. Superintendent Dr. Donald E. Robertson Jr. made the announcement during a surprise visit to Brandon Middle on Dec. 19.

The Virginia Beach City Public Schools’ Building Utilization Committee (BUC) has developed a proposal recommending zoning changes for Point O’View Elementary School.
Green Run Collegiate (GRC) has been named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, receiving the distinction of Exemplary High Performing School.

Early Dismissal/Leaving School Grounds
The Superintendent or designee shall develop procedures governing the early dismissal of students. Students shall not leave school grounds after arriving on the school premises without the approval of the principal.
