The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released Standard of Learning (SOL) pass rate data on Aug. 27. The overall SOL pass rates for Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) exceeded the state pass rates in all subject areas.

INSTRUCTION
Accreditation
The Standards for Accreditation of Public Schools in Virginia are designed to ensure that an effective educational program is established and maintained in Virginia's public schools. The mission of the public educational system, first and foremost, is to educate students in the essential academic knowledge and skills in order that they may be equipped to be college, career, and citizen ready.
In accordance with the legal reference to this Policy, the School Administration shall maintain public elementary and secondary schools which meet accrediting standards adopted by the Virginia Board of Education. The School Board endeavors to provide an essential foundation of educational programs of high quality in all schools for all students, to encourage continuous appraisal and improvement of the school program for the purpose of raising student achievement, to foster public confidence, to assure recognition of Virginia's public schools by other institutions of learning and to establish a means of determining the effectiveness of schools.
The accreditation status of each school in the School Division shall be presented to the School Board annually in public session by the School Administration.
