VBCPS students outperform state on SOL tests

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released Standard of Learning (SOL) pass rate data on Aug. 27. The overall SOL pass rates for Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) exceeded the state pass rates in all subject areas.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools Music Education Program Receives National Recognition for 16th Year

For the 16th time, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation. Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students.

2025 Citywide Volunteers of the Year

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) values and promotes active engagement of the community in all our schools. The Office of Family and Community Engagement coordinates many volunteer opportunities for community members to interact and contribute to the academic achievement of our students and the overall continuous improvement of VBCPS.

2025-26 federal grant information presented to Virginia Beach School Board

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 13 meeting. For the 2025-26 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $21.6 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

COMMUNITY RELATIONS

Interagency Committee for Adult Basic Education

Under the School Board's Policy and regulation for Citizens' Advisory Committees, an Interagency Committee for Adult Basic Education shall be activated.

  1. Purpose

    The Interagency Committee shall function as the School Planning Council for the Adult Learning Center. The Committee will advise the School Board and the Superintendent regarding the needs of the Adult Basic Education programs in the School Division.

  2. Membership
    1. The number of non-School Division members is determined by the number of participating organizations;
    2. The number of staff members shall be determined by the Director of the Adult Learning Center. The Superintendent or designee may remove staff members from the Committee with or without cause and staff members will have no right to appeal that decision;
    3. The School Board will appoint citizen members to the Committee in accordance with applicable policy and regulation;
  3. Selection and Term of Office and Chairperson
    1. Citizen members and/or agency representatives will be appointed to the Committee by the School Board in accordance with applicable policy and regulation. Terms of service will be for a three year period.
    2. The Director of the Adult Learning Center shall serve as chairperson of the Committee.
  4. Reports

    Minutes of all Committee meetings are kept at the Adult Learning Center and shall be made available to all staff, Committee members, and participating organizations. The Committee will annually provide a written report of the Committee's work to the Superintendent and the School Board.
