VBCPS students outperform state on SOL tests

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released Standard of Learning (SOL) pass rate data on Aug. 27. The overall SOL pass rates for Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) exceeded the state pass rates in all subject areas.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools Music Education Program Receives National Recognition for 16th Year

For the 16th time, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation. Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students.

2025 Citywide Volunteers of the Year

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) values and promotes active engagement of the community in all our schools. The Office of Family and Community Engagement coordinates many volunteer opportunities for community members to interact and contribute to the academic achievement of our students and the overall continuous improvement of VBCPS.

2025-26 federal grant information presented to Virginia Beach School Board

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 13 meeting. For the 2025-26 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $21.6 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

Community Ad Hoc Strategic Plan Committee

Under the School Board's Policy and regulation for Citizens' Advisory Committees, an Interagency Committee for Ad Hoc strategic planning shall be activated.

  1. Definition and Purpose

    The School Board shall activate a Community Ad Hoc Strategic Plan Committee one year prior to the end of the cycle of the long-range plan required by the Virginia Department of Education. This Committee shall serve for the purpose of gathering input from the community and reviewing materials related to the strategic planning process.

  2. Members: Appointment/Term of Office

    The School Board will appoint citizen members to this Committee in accordance with applicable policy and regulation. The Superintendent or designee will appoint staff members to serve on the committee and provide administrative support for the Committee. The Superintendent or designee shall retain the right with or without cause to remove staff members assigned to the Committee and appoint new staff members. Staff members shall have no right to appeal removal from the Committee. To the extent practicable, membership on the on the Committee should represent a cross section of the community.

  3. Facilitator

    The Superintendent shall designate a staff member to function as administrative facilitator for the Committee.

  4. Reports

    A summary of the community input will be provided as context for the School Division's long-range plan. The Committee will provide a report to the School Board concerning the work of the Committee.
